Winn-Dixie Announces New Marketing Directors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. today announced four new directors in its restructured marketing department: Joanne Gage, Larry Beck, Judy L. Holland, and John Opasinski. Vice president Dave Henry is managing the department, which is set to implement the company's centralized marketing efforts.

Joanne Gage, APR, joins Winn-Dixie as the senior director of consumer and marketing services, with responsibilities entailing managing the electronic marketing and consumer affairs departments and assisting with the public and community relations functions. Prior to joining Winn-Dixie, Gage spent 18 years with Price Chopper Supermarkets in Schenectady, N.Y., where she served as the vice president, consumer marketing services, since 1992. Her background includes consumer affairs, public relations, promotions, customer loyalty programs, crisis management and market research. She serves on FMI's Consumer Affairs Committee, is a marketing specialist and an accredited public relations professional.

Larry Beck, the new director of advertising, has been a Winn-Dixie employee for more than three decades. He has headed up advertising, marketing and consumer affairs in both the Miami and Orlando divisions. In April 2000, Beck was transferred to Jacksonville as corporate marketing manager. Most recently, he was corporate promotions/special marketing manager under the new marketing structure. Beck?s current responsibilities include directing all broadcast, print, creative and budget activities for the marketing department.

Judy Holland is the company's new director of consumer affairs, reporting to Joanne Gage, senior director of consumer and marketing services. Prior to joining the Winn-Dixie team, Holland worked for The Kroger Co. for more than 20 years as consumer affairs manager.

As director of corporate brand marketing, John Opasinski joins Winn-Dixie from Andersen Business Consulting, where he was a senior manager specializing in retail management. Opasinski started his career at Jewel Food Stores, as a manager of special promotions and as a category manager. Later he became manager of corporate brands for American Stores, and more recently served as national product manager supervising the corporate home meal replacement initiative. His duties at Winn-Dixie include increasing brand awareness, developing the annual corporate plan for marketing various corporate brands, maintaining budget of the annual corporate plan, and maintaining synergy between marketing, merchandising, label design and advertising for corporate brands.
