Publix Offers Flu Shots

Flu season, or at least the battle against it, seems to start earlier every year. To wit: Publix Super Markets Pharmacies are now providing flu immunizations, including traditional flu shots and Fluzone High Dose, administered by the grocer's pharmacists.

"Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the affordable and convenient way to help fight the flu virus this season by stopping by their neighborhood Publix Pharmacy for a flu shot," noted Brenda Reid, media and community relations manager for Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix. "Our pharmacists are committed to keeping our customers healthy this flu season and are always available to answer questions."

The traditional flu shot costs $30 at Publix, with no appointment needed. The grocer accepts Medicare Part B and many other third-party insurances as payment. Restrictions apply for minors, and state laws vary. Fluzone High Dose is recommended for those 65 and older. Customers with Medicare coverage who are eligible to receive the vaccine will have it billed to Medicare, while those without Medicare will pay $55.

Publix additionally offers shingles and pneumococcal vaccines.

Privately owned and operated by its 168,500 employees, Publix has 1,078 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina.
