Walmart Taps Hays to Succeed Huff as EVP, Consumables, H&W

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has revealed that Scott Huff, its EVP, consumables, health & wellness, who is retiring after 23 years with the mega-retailer, will be succeeded by Marybeth Hays, currently chief merchandising, marketing and supply chain officer at Walmart China. Hays will fully transition into the role on June 1.

After joining Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart in 1994 as an intern, Huff quickly rose through the ranks, holding a range of roles with increasing responsibility, among them divisional merchandise manager, regional general manager of region 26, SVP of consumables and EVP of merchandising operations.

Before her current role, Hays was SVP for both the home and ladies' apparel divisions for Walmart U.S. She joined the company in 2009 as SVP of home, apparel, jewelry and seasonal at Sam’s Club. Prior to joining Sam’s Club, Hays was a merchandising VP with Lowe’s Home Improvement for eight years, heading the seasonal living and fashion bath divisions. She also held VP-level marketing roles at Lexington Furniture and Hanesbrands Inc. Hays has been a member of the Walmart Foundation board of directors since 2012.
