Web Site Offers Free Money-saving Tools in SoCal

Frugalicious, a Web site that helps consumers save money, yesterday began offering its money-saving grocery-shopping resources, known as “The Weekly Tools,” free to Southern Californians. Previously, access to the tools at www.myfrugalicious.com required a monthly paid subscription. Carlsbad, Calif.-based Frugalicious said it would make the tools available at no charge for the next four months to help the region’s residents, many of whom were hit hard by the recession, lower their grocery bills.

The Weekly Tools consist of three databases that ease shoppers’ search for the best deals on groceries. The Current Deals List compiles sales from seven Southern California stores, and also matches those sales with available coupons for further savings. The Virtual Price Book lists the best and worst grocery prices over the past six months on thousands of items. The “Coupon Database” lists unexpired grocery coupons from various sources, including online printable coupons.

Frugalicious owner Misty Marsh developed the tools in 2008 as a way to reduce her own five-member family’s grocery bills. Since that time, Marsh has lowered her monthly expenditure on groceries, diapers, paper goods and toiletries from $500 to $600, to $200 to $250.

Southern Californians “need extra money, but don’t have a lot of time,” noted Marsh. “Many start couponing and then quit within a few weeks or months. I’ve tried to create a Web site that will help and encourage them as they work to save for their families. Making the Weekly Tools available for free is part of that overall goal.”
