Roundy's Partners with Produce for Kids on School Salad Bars

For the second year, Roundy’s is partnering with Produce for Kids for a healthy eating-focused campaign to raise funds for the United Fresh Start Foundation’s Let’s Move Salad Bars to Midwest Schools campaign.

Taking place through July 12, Produce for Kids will offer shoppers in-store and online meal solutions, recipes and tips for families looking to embrace healthier eating habits.

To help Roundy’s support the effort, shoppers are encouraged to add more produce to their grocery carts. Seven participating fruit and vegetable suppliers, Avocados from Mexico - Mexican Hass Avocados; Chiquita Fresh - Fresh Express Packaged Salads; NatureSweet Glorys Tomatoes; Naturipe - Blueberries, Blackberries, Strawberries and Raspberries; Organicgirl - good clean greens; Pom Wonderful - Pomegranate Juice & Teas; and Shuman Produce - RealSweet Vidalia Onions, will make a consumption-based donation to support Let’s Move Salad Bars to Midwest Schools, which has a goal to increase children’s produce consumption by donating salad bars to schools in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

“What’s great about this campaign is that it gives our team members and customers an opportunity to help our neighbors because all the money raised stays within the local community,” said Steve Jarzombek, VP of produce merchandising at Roundy’s. “We are proud to partner with Produce for Kids on an effort that encourages our shoppers to introduce fresh fruits and vegetables to their families while supporting local children in need.”

Throughout the campaign, shoppers can share their own recipes and ideas to promote social conversations about healthy eating using the hashtag #produceforkids. Additionally, in-store cooking demonstrations will take place in select Copps, Metro Market and Pick ’n Save stores on June 27 featuring dietitian-approved recipes and tips to make healthier choices on a daily basis. The demonstrations include items from fruit and vegetable sponsors of the campaign.

To date, Roundy's has donated 50 salad bars to Wisconsin schools. Schools interested in receiving salad bars can visit www.saladbars2schools.org for additional details and information about submitting an application.

Founded in Milwaukee in 1872, Roundy’s operates 150 retail grocery stores and 100 pharmacies under the Pick ’n Save, Copps, Metro Market and Mariano’s retail banners in Wisconsin and Illinois.
