Bob Mariano Joins InContext Board

Bob Mariano, retired chairman and CEO of Milwaukee-based Roundy’s Inc. and founder of the Chicago-area Mariano’s Fresh Market chain, has been named to the board of directors of InContext Solutions.

“Bob Mariano is a retail industry giant and has an unprecedented ability to create amazing shopper experiences,” said Mark Hardy, CEO of Chicago-based InContext Solutions. “He is a well-respected industry pioneer, and his knowledge and vision will be incredibly valuable as we continue to grow. We are excited to welcome him to our board.”

Mariano retired from Roundy’s in September 2016 after it merged with Kroger. He had been CEO of Dominick’s Finer Foods, where he grew the Chicago-area company into a strong regional supermarket chain with 115 stores, taking it public until Safeway bought the company in 1998.

“InContext’s game-changing VR technology is creating a significant impact on the evolving retail industry,” Mariano said. “VR vastly improves the retail innovation process while drastically reducing wasted time and resources. I am thrilled to contribute to a company that is transforming retail as we know it.”

Also named as a director at InContext was Stuart Scholly, SVP and general manager of the web security business at Cambridge, Mass.-based Akamai Technologies.

InContext Solutions is a provider of enterprise virtual reality (VR) shopping and retail solutions, allowing manufacturers and retailers to simulate real in-store shopping situations to ideate, evaluate and activate all types of merchandising, display, layout and other in-store shopping experiences within a VR store environment.
