Food Lion Reopening 162 Raleigh, N.C.-area Stores

Following a $250 million capital investment – the largest in its history – Food Lion will unveil 162 refreshed stores in the greater Raleigh, N.C., market on Oct. 14.

"Food Lion has been a proud neighbor in the Raleigh community for 40 years," noted Meg Ham, the chain’s president. "On the anniversary of our four decades in the market, we spent the year making significant investments in our stores, our customers, our associates and our community to offer a new grocery shopping experience where customers can easily find fresh, quality products at affordable prices every day, delivered with caring, friendly service every time they shop. We invite our customers to come out and experience 'How Life is Better with the Lion' at Food Lion and let us know what [they] think of the new stores."

Food Lion's New Features

Along with easier-to-shop features such as updated checkout technology and larger display screens, the revamped stores now feature lower prices on thousands of items in all departments; fresher produce, quality meats and a larger selection of natural and organic items, as well as a dedicated gluten-free section; and improved customer service accomplished by promoting or hiring hundreds of associates throughout the market and investing in further customer-centric training for the 10,000 associates in the Raleigh market.

The locations also offer affordable meals for families, including weekend deals from Friday to Sunday and hot meals with sides available seven days a week, along with a wider assortment of grab-and-go items and pre-sliced deli meats and cheeses, which are sliced fresh daily and can be picked up by customers without waiting in line.

Additionally, new signage at the stores promotes Three Easy Ways to Save:

  • Hot Sale : Food Lion's top weekly MVP specials, and the best prices throughout the store, only available with an MVP card.
  • WOW: Lower prices on thousands of essential items, offered for longer periods of time.
  • Low Price: Staples throughout the store, priced affordably every day.

"With every change we made in our stores, we had our customers at the forefront with a key focus on how can we better connect with those we serve to make their life a little easier and a little better," continued Ham. "That's why we not only invested in the stores, but invested in promoting the great associates we already had at Food Lion and in new talent by redoubling our hiring efforts this year."

This latest wave of store remodels was executed in accordance with Food Lion's "Easy, Fresh and Affordable…You Can Count on Food Lion Every Day" strategy. The grocer's plans call for more storewide enhancements in its other markets over time.

As part of the reopening festivities, Food Lion will give away free groceries to the first 100 customers at each of the 162 locations.
