FreshDirect Now Accepting MasterPass

Online grocer FreshDirect will now accept MasterPass, MasterCard’s digital payments platform, as a way to enhance the online and in-app payment process for customers.

MasterPass enables consumers to pay for items securely online or through an app, using any device. The platform securely stores payment and shipping information, which is readily available when a consumer checks out using the “Buy with MasterPass” button and logs into his or her account.

“FreshDirect’s promise to perfect the shop and deliver experience for its customers aligns with MasterCard’s commitment to ensure a seamless and secure checkout process,” noted Michael Cyr, group executive, U.S. market development at MasterCard. “With MasterPass, consumers can go online, place their order and pay with just a click. The burden of entering delivery and billing information is eliminated, further enhancing the quality service FreshDirect provides.”

“Since day 1, FreshDirect’s mission has been to make great food easy to get,” added Jodi Kahn, chief consumer officer at Long Island City, N.Y.-based FreshDirect. “Launching the MasterPass technology across the FreshDirect shopping experience speaks directly to that mission, enabling our customers to take advantage of payment innovation and streamline checkout.”

From Dec.16, 2015, through March 31, 2016, consumers can get $25 off a FreshDirect purchase the first time they use MasterPass to buy groceries from the FreshDirect website or app. The offer is available anywhere the e-grocer delivers.

U.S. consumers can create a MasterPass account online by enrolling at a participating bank such as Citibank. New York metro-area customers can join MasterCard and FreshDirect at the Union Square Holiday Market on Dec. 16 to learn more. Launched in 2013, MasterPass is now available in 24 countries.

FreshDirect delivers to customers in the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut metro areas and the greater Philadelphia area, including Delaware.
