Gelson's Markets Deploys Category Management Solution

Gelson's Markets has deployed a new series of category management solutions powered by JDA Software Group, designed to increase efficiency and automation of the grocer's planning activities.

The solutions suite will replace Gelson's previous manual, spreadsheet-based planning processes, and will help the grocer "create targeted assortments that maximize the profitability of available shelf space — while also maximizing the efficiency of planning personnel," Gelson's said in a statement.

“In order to grow in today’s hypercompetitive grocery environment, we need to offer the same high levels of service, as well as the targeted product assortments, that Gelson’s has built its reputation on,” said Doug Freund, VP of MIS for Gelson’s. “This means significantly increasing our space and category management productivity, without adding new resources."

“We are pleased to partner with JDA as we enter the next phase of our company’s growth,” Freund added.

Gelson’s Markets operates 18 stores across Southern California. In 2014, the company was acquired by TPG, a global private investment firm.
