Instacart Expands Into Marin County, Calif.

Instacart has expanded into Marin County, Calif., allowing residents in the county and surrounding areas to order groceries and have them delivered. Grocery partnerships are with Whole Foods Market, Costco, Mollie Stone’s Markets, Andronico’s Community Markets, Smart & Final, and Safeway.

Initial delivery area in Marin County includes 14 ZIP codes: 94941, 94901, 94965, 94903, 94920, 94904, 94960, 94925, 94939, 94949, 94945, 94947, 94930 and 94957. For every order placed in the first two months following launch, Instacart will donate a meal to the SF-Marin Food Bank. Instacart also will be involved with several Marin County events during its launch, including San Rafael’s Downtown Farmer’s Market on June 30.

"Expanding our footprint into Marin is an exciting indicator of the growing demand for grocery delivery in the Bay Area," said Sid Agarwal, Instacart's general manager for the San Francisco Bay Area. "San Francisco is one of our biggest and most successful markets, and we're thrilled to provide Marin's community with the same fast and convenient access to their favorite fresh and healthy products, whenever and wherever they want them."

“We have been able to provide a great service and have made a difference in people’s lives with this convenience,” said Mike Stone, CEO of Mollie Stone's, which first partnered with Instacart in June 2015. “We’ve been really impressed by the interest from customers, and expanding the service to customers in our own backyard in Marin is a natural next step.”

For Andronico’s, Marin marks its fourth trade area for on-demand grocery delivery with Instacart, following San Francisco, East Bay and South Bay. The grocer already has been piloting a pickup service via Instacart at its San Anselmo store.

"Through Instacart, we've been able to reach customers well outside our brick-and-mortar parameters, making the partnership extremely valuable for us," said Andronico's CEO Suzy Monford. "The results have been impressive; our business on Instacart now represents 95 percent incremental sales for Andronico's."

Founded in San Francisco in 2012, Instacart enables customers to order groceries online, which are then delivered in as little as one hour.
