Instacart, Shipt Expand in Texas, Fla., Ariz.

Grocery delivery services Shipt and Instacart have further expanded their partnerships in Florida and Texas, the former adding delivery from more H-E-B stores in the Houston metro area, and the latter pairing with grocers in the Tampa Bay area. Additionally, Instacart has entered Phoenix, its first market in Arizona.

With Shipt, beginning Nov. 3, residents of 22 additional Houston-area zip codes can have groceries from four additional H-E-B stores delivered via the Birmingham, Ala.-headquartered service. The expansion adds Conroe, Humble, Pasadena and Baytown onto the region already served.

Through the Shipt mobile app, members may choose from a full selection of groceries offered by local H-E-B stores – including those under the grocer’s Central Market banner – note preferences, choose a one-hour delivery window and pay for their order. Like Instacart, Shipt connects members with a community of shoppers who hand-pick items in the order and deliver them as quickly as one hour after the order is placed. Leading up to the expansion, the service plans to grow its network of more than 300 shoppers and identify opportunities to support community organizations throughout Houston.

As for Instacart, Tampa Bay-area residents in 81 zip codes, from North Tampa to St. Petersburg, can now order groceries for delivery in as little as one hour from such grocers as Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix and Issaquah, Wash.-headquartered Costco. The Tampa Bay area is the San Francisco-based service’s third region in Florida, following the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale areas. In, residents in 22 Phoenix-area zip codes can order groceries from such retailers as Commerce, Calif.-based Smart & Final and Costco.

Customers may order via Instacart's website or mobile app, select their city and store, add items to a virtual cart and choose a delivery window. An Instacart personal shopper accepts the order on his or her mobile device and uses the Instacart Shopper app to guide them through shopping, before delivering the order.
