Market Basket Offers Online Job Applications

As a way for associates to apply for positions within the company without being intimidated or harassed, Demoulas Supermarkets, parent company of grocery chain Market Basket, is letting them put in for the jobs by e-mail, according to published reports.

In a statement by the company's co-CEOs, Felicia Thornton and James Gooch, they noted that employees who wanted to apply for internal positions were worried about their safety if they showed up in person at Demoulas Supermarkets' job fair, which is taking place this week. The company had set a deadline of Monday, Aug. 4, for protesting employees loyal to ousted CEO Arthur S. Demoulas to go back to work or be fired.

The latest rally held by employees in favor of Arthur T. Demoulas' return to the company’s helm took place on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 5, near Demoulas Supermarkets' headquarters in Tewksbury, Mass.

Earlier this week, Arthur T. offered to return to stabilize the company, whose shelves have been running out of product, while he continues negotiations to buy the company back from the rival faction led by his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas.
