Walmart Makes More Back-to-School Items Available for Store Pickup

Walmart has considerably increased the number of back-to-school items that customers can order using the mega-retailer’s Online Grocery Pickup and Pickup Today services, and has introduced in-store Back-to-School Helpers to help shoppers save time. The company has also launched a dedicated back-to-school destination enabling customers to search and shop the actual school supply lists for ultimately more than 1 million classrooms across the country.

“This back-to-school season, we’re keeping the math problems simple – adding savings, subtracting time,” said Scott Bayles, VP of stationery, Walmart U.S. “It’s always been our job to save our customers money, and we aren’t changing – you can still find more than 300 items under $1 at Walmart this back-to-school season – but we’re doing more than that. We’re also saving our customers time with easy ways to shop and multiple ways to get these items to students, so everyone can ace their school shopping.”

Customers who order online and pick up in stores will be able to have a Walmart associate shop for them. For the back-to-school season, there are now hundreds more back-to-school staples available for Online Grocery Pickup shopping, a 150 percent year-over-year increase. College students and their parents can shop for items on Walmart.com and pick them up at a store closer to campus. Walmart currently has more than 800 Online Grocery Pickup locations nationwide.

Additionally, the company has doubled the number of items available for same-day pickup, including the top 400-plus back-to-school items.

Already deployed during the holiday season, Walmart’s in-store helpers are ready to assist back-to-school customers to checkout, find the shortest lines and add any last-minute items they may have forgotten.

Further, Walmart is integrating its popular TeacherLists resource into a dedicated back-to-school shopping destination allowing customers to connect with classrooms to get school supply lists directly from teachers. Searching by ZIP code, customers can quickly find an individual classroom list or shop from a general grade supply list. By clicking the Add All to Cart button, site visitors can instantly add all items to a basket and then choose whether to pick up the items at a local store or ship them to a home address. Many of the top back-to-school items on Walmart.com are available for free two-day shipping on orders of more than $35.

Currently, almost 500,000 classroom lists are available for search, with the number expected to grow to more than 1 million by the end of August.
