    Dierbergs Introduces Certified Organic Produce

    St. LOUIS -- Dierbergs said yesterday that it has added to its assortment of high wuality fresh produce a new program of certified organic fruits and vegetables.

    St. LOUIS -- Dierbergs said yesterday that it has added to its assortment of high wuality fresh produce a new program of certified organic fruits and vegetables.

    Dierbergs said it now introduced a now carries a daily selection of more than 190 fresh certified organic items in its produce department, according to its weekly e-mail newsletter.

    "This week, find some popular organic favorites at sure-to-be popular prices," Dierbergs said in the newsletter. The weekly special included 1 lb. Trays of Driscoll's organic strawberries, two for $6; 4.4 OZ TRAYS of organic blueberries at two for $7; Foxy Brand organic fresh-cut vegetables, two 12-oz. Bags for $5.

    The chain also promoted the availability of bing cherries. "Dierbergs reminds you of this simple fact: as a cherry grows, its seed stays the same size," the newsletter explained. "So a larger cherry means more fruit." It promoted jumbo California sweet bing cherries at $3.99 a pound.

    Additionally, Dierberg's was pushing "Summertime Select Stone Fruits" as a seasonal special. "Get ready for a peach of a season! Dierbergs Summertime Select Tree-Ripened Fruits are back," boasted the newsletter. "Sweet, sweet varieties of peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums and pluots make up our exclusive collection of tree-ripened fruits from California. These terrific stone fruits are grown on small family-owned farms and hand-picked (literally) for superior color, quality and sweetness. This week, pick up yellow-flesh peaches or nectarines on sale!" The fruits were $1.99 a pound.
