Fairway Signs TriBeCa Store Lease

Fairway Group Holdings Corp., parent company of Big Apple gourmet grocer Fairway Market, has signed a long-term lease to open a 52,242-square-foot grocery in Manhattan's TriBeCa neighborhood.

The two-story location, at 255 Greenwich St. (at Murray St.), and expected to open its doors in fall 2014, will be the first Fairway store in lower Manhattan and the 16th in the tri-state New York, New Jersey and Connecticut region.

“TriBeCa is a great and growing family neighborhood and home to great amenities, from restaurants to schools and colleges, and a world-renowned film festival,” noted Charles Santoro, Fairway Market’s executive chairman. “And because it is in lower Manhattan, which is also home to Battery Park City, the Freedom Tower, and the Financial District, the location is ideal for those who live and work there.”

“The Greenwich Street corridor is the spine that connects TriBeCa with downtown, and … Fairway will make that link even stronger with its presence at 255 Greenwich,” added Burt Resnick, chairman and CEO of Jack Resnick & Sons, a New York-based developer of commercial and residential space. “We are confident that the new Fairway location will boost three great neighborhoods – Battery Park, the Financial District and TriBeCa – establishing a popular shopping and dining destination for residents, workers and visitors alike as lower Manhattan’s retail renaissance continues on.”

In common with all Fairway Markets, the TriBeCa store will carry a combination of traditional, organic and specialty foods chosen from its comprehensive selection of 70,000 SKUs across its store network and including daily-delivered produce, kosher items, fresh seafood, custom-cut USDA prime meat, an in-store bakery, international cheeses and a deli counter.

According to Fairway CEO Herb Ruetsch, not only will the grocer provide TriBeCa residents with “a fabulous food shopping experience with fresh, natural, organic and conventional foods at terrific prices," but the store has also created several hundred new jobs in the area.
