Five Former Stop & Shops to Reopen as ShopRites

ELIZABETH, N.J. -- Five ShopRite locations are said to be ready to open in South Jersey on Sept. 23, bringing the grocer's total number of stores in the state to 127.

Two of the five stores are in Cherry Hill, with the others in Mount Laurel, Sicklerville, and Laurel Springs, according to a local press report. The stores are five of the nine former Stop & Shop stores acquired by operators that are part of Wakefern Food Corp.

The Ravitz family, which operates Supermarkets of Cherry Hill, Inc., owns the Cherry Hill and Mount Laurel stores, and George Zallie, who operates Zallie Supermarkets, Inc., owns the other two.

Two more ShopRite stores that are part of the acquisition from Stop & Shop are set to open in South Jersey at the end of this month, one in Absecon and the other in Mount Laurel.
