Food City Adds Director of Healthy Initiatives

Lori Ann Hamilton has joined K-VA-T Food Stores/Food City as director of healthy initiatives. In her new post, Hamilton will provide direction and assistance on health related issues and health and wellness matters relating to the company’s associate health plan. She will also work to provide consumers with dietary information, direct the company focus on nutritional programs and assist the pharmacy operations staff with health related issues.

“This is a position that we have been seeking to fill for several months,” said Steven C. Smith, president/CEO of the Abingdon, Vir.-based K-VA-T Food Stores. “This is a new position for our company [and] one that we feel is greatly needed.”

Hamilton joins the Food City team after 27 years with Mountain States Health Alliance, where she served in a number of positions of increasing responsibility, including OB/GYN clinical manager, women’s health education coordinator, health resources center coordinator and educator, health resources center community outreach director, and most recently, director of community health and wellness.

Having received a BS in Nursing from East Tennessee State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, Hamilton is a past recipient of numerous awards, including the local Business Journal’s 40 under Forty Award, Media Nurse Award, Healthcare Hero individual award and two time Healthcare Hero team award winner.

K-VA-T Food Stores operates 102 retail food outlets throughout the tri-state regions of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
