New Yorkers will able to try the unique cuisine of the Canadian province of Québec by visiting The Food Emporium. On May 28 A&P’s upscale banner will launch “Taste of Québec,” a program featuring a full array of premium gourmet and specialty foods. Product sampling will take place on the day of the launch and throughout the ensuing weekend.
Encompassing fertile plains, mixed forests, rugged seacoasts and abundant natural resources, Québec produces a wide variety of foods, among them meats and poultry, artisan cheeses, fresh produce, seafood, and baked goods.
The grocer will offer a range of meats from the province, including Du Breton pork products such as boneless pork chops, pork tenderloin and rib eye; humanely raised, grain- and milk-fed veal from Montpak International; Brome Lake duck; and Atkins & Frères smoked fish.
Additionally, among the artisanal cheese brands to be showcased at Food Emporium stores are Damafro, Alexis de Portneuf, Duhaime. The banner is also offering two premium maple syrups, Möpure and La Ferme Martinette. Québec produces 80 percent of the world’s maple syrup.
Other gourmet specialties included in “Taste of Québec” will be mustards, oils, jellies, teas, beers and an assortment of artisan breads and rolls.
The Food Emporium is operated by The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. of Montvale, N.J., which operates 444 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia under the following banners: A&P, Waldbaum’s, Pathmark, Best Cellars, The Food Emporium, Super Foodmart, Super Fresh and Food Basics.
