Food Lion Names VP of Efficiency and Productivity

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion LLC, a subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group, has named Pete Bonneau v.p. of efficiency and productivity. In this new role, he will be responsible for identifying efficiencies and savings opportunities across the organization, the chain said.

Bonneau, who will report to Scott Harrison, Food Lion's s.v.p. of information technology and chief information officer, has more than 25 years experience in the grocery industry. He most recently served as leader of the Private Brand Engine of Growth, in which he led initiatives for the U.S. Delhaize operating companies.

In prior roles, Bonneau led the development and implementation of the company's unsaleables program, and pioneered a cross-functional process in the logistics operation that enables effective management of cost, inventory, and service levels, Food Lion said.

In other Food Lion news, the regional chain has kicked off its annual "Hunger Has a Cure" campaign. From June 5 through July 7, all Food Lion stores will participate in the campaign to support local food banks affiliated with the America's Second Harvest Network.

Food Lion said the June 5 start date of the campaign is significant because it coincides with National Hunger Awareness Day, an annual observance in an effort to raise awareness of hunger in America and to raise donations to help end it.

Food Lion said customers could support their local food banks and feed the hungry by making monetary contributions at the register or purchasing ready-made, discounted boxes of food for $4.99. All monetary and food donations will stay in the communities where given to feed the hungry.

This is Food Lion's fifth year of the annual Hunger Has a Cure campaign. During the 2006 campaign, Food Lion customers and employees contributed more than $111,000 and more than 56,000 boxes of food. The total value of the cash donations and boxes of food equaled more than $392,000.

Overall in 2006, Food Lion was the second-largest retail food donor nationwide to America's Second Harvest. Food Lion raised and donated more than 34 million pounds (17,000 tons) of food to America's Second Harvest food banks.
