FoodLogiQ, a Durham, N.C.-based provider of on-demand food safety and traceability software, launched a mobile messaging solution that provides traceability and brand information about products to consumers via their mobile phones.
Called mobilemarQit, the solution is a textable code on a label that consumers can use with their mobile devices to find out more information about products at the point of purchase, including its origin, information about the grower, production practices, and even brand information.
Underlying mobilemarQit is FoodLogiQ’s traceability solution, which enables growers, packers/shippers and retailers to capture, identify and trace detailed information about a product, (item, case or pallet). It provides farm-of-origin item labeling solutions leveraging GS1 standards. Farm-to-fork traceability is enabled using industry-standard bar codes with off-the-shelf label-printing equipment or pre-printed labels. The solution leverages Web-based collaboration technologies and integration services to interconnect all players in the value chain cost-effectively. Most importantly, with mobile messaging, consumers can receive more information about products right at the retail shelf through their mobile devices.
