Foodservice Equipment Trends: One-Cup Brewers, Sustainable Counters and Cabinets, Non-refrigerated Bakery Merchandisers, and More

The hits, as they say, just keep coming in the realm of foodservice equipment, and this month’s trendsetters cover a wide range of additions, including:

• Kraft Vending & OCS, based in Glenview, Ill., has introduced the Tassimo Professional single-cup brewing systems, the T-300 and the compact T-65 CUL. Both brewers offer products delivered via T-Discs, which are unique to the away-from-home channel and not compatible with the Tassimo home system

The T-300 is designed for large settings, and the T-65 CUL offers a smaller footprint. Both use sophisticated scanning technology to control such variables as water temperature, volume, flow rate, and time to prepare a perfect hot-beverage drink.

With well-known brands such as Gevalia (see item above), Twinings and Suchard, Tassimo Professional provides a variety of hot beverages, and the collection also prepares premium specialty drinks such as true espresso, real liquid milk-based drinks, cappuccinos, and lattes in less than two minutes.

• Pan-Oston offers the only cabinet and counter system that fully capitalizes on “reduce” and “reuse” resource conservation strategies, according to the Bowling Green, Ky.-based manufacturer.

The C-Flex system uses fewer natural resources and can be easily reconfigured and reused, providing flexibility at a lower cost than traditional box counters. The system’s patent-pending, tubular steel frame design uses less wood and steel, and also offers three to four times more durability than a traditional millwork cabinet.

C-Flex’s unique frame can be used for many remodels, and because only exterior panels or countertops are replaced for a new fixture appearance, landfill volume is reduced by up to 75 percent. The modular system is versatile and easily reconfigured, and can be rearranged to accommodate new products and store layouts. With multiple cabinet and countertop options, C-Flex is suitable for a wide variety of retail merchandising uses.

Pan-Oston is offering C-Flex system demonstrations delivered directly which can be scheduled by calling 800-210-2302 or visiting www.panoston.com. A video demonstration hosted by Supermarket Guru Phil Lempert is also available at the Web site.

• Master-Bilt has unveiled the CGB-NR series of non-refrigerated curved glass bakery merchandisers, whose expansive tempered front glass and minimal frame allow customers to focus on the products inside. The front glass tilts up for easy cleaning and loading, and on the inside, the visual appeal is enhanced by lighting in the top of the case and under each shelf, with glass ends adding even more visibility

CGB-NR merchandisers come standard with three adjustable white wire shelves to make the most of interior space and provide more sales space. They also include removable sliding rear doors for additional product access, adjustable legs to use on any unleveled floor, and come in 50-, 59- and 77-inch widths. The larger-model CGB-77NR contains six shelves for maximum display of non-refrigerated items.

New Albany, Miss.-based Master-Bilt’s CGB refrigerated and non-refrigerated models come with a standard two-year warranty on parts and labor.

• Rubbermaid recently introduced its ProSave Food Box System featuring the new Dual Action Food Box Lid, which helps provide an integrated solution that fits all brands of clear food boxes, and slides back or flips up for proper food storage and freshness.

“With its intuitive design, the patent-pending ProSave Dual Action Lid allows the user to quickly access food with one hand, improving efficiency by 65 percent while reducing risk of cross-contamination,” said Dawn Huston, product manager of foodservice for Winchester, Va.-based Rubbermaid Commercial Products. “The unique lid operation provides for flexible access by either sliding the clear plastic door back or flips up without the need to remove the lid -- something other food box lids simply don’t do. This system helps comply with FDA Food Code 3-305.11 to prevent contamination from the premise.”

The Pro-Save Dual Action Lid offers improved space efficiency when reduced clearance is required, and can also be stacked, withstanding up to 100 pounds. The durable clear food box lid allows for easy identification of inventory management, with the additional benefits of odor and stain resistance.

The lids are available in two sizes: 18 inches by 12 inches, and 26 inches by 18 inches. The system includes accessories such as drain trays with a domed design to improve drainage and airflow circulation and colanders that fit 18-inch-by-26-inch boxes. The 8-inch colander offers easy lift handles and drain openings for liquid drainage.
