FreeBird Bows Eco-Friendly Packaging

FreeBird, a leader in antibiotic-free chicken, will be even greener in 2011 as the Fredericksburg, Pa.-based producer converts to vacuum-sealed “eco-friendly trayless” packaging.

“Our new eco-friendly packaging is designed to be both better for our customers and our environment,” said Barb Quijano, VP of marketing. The new eco-friendly packages are vacuum-sealed, Quijano notes, which maximizes freshness and is leak proof. In addition the packages are easier to freeze, and the vacuum packages also retain their presentation and take less room in the case, while reducing transit costs and landfill space, Quijano notes.

In its ongoing commitment to being as green as possible, FreeBird is also transitioning its “ready-to-eat” frozen line to 100 percent recycled paperboard in early 2011.  “As a company that is dedicated to sustainability, we are always looking for ways to do better,” said Quijano.
