Fresh Market-anchored Neighborhood Center Underway in Greenville, S.C.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Construction is underway here at Forest Park, a 53,300-square-foot neighborhood center that will feature a Fresh Market as the anchor, according to the project's developer, real estate company Edens & Avant. The center is expected to open in the summer of 2008.

"Greenville is a sophisticated market," said Lyle Darnall, Edens & Avant's v.p. of development, "and it is well-positioned for an upscale center convenient to the booming downtown and close-in residential areas."

Planned for the center is a blend of national and regional specialty retailers that will compliment the Fresh Market and the "boutique feel" of Forest Park, according to Edens & Avant. A brick fa•ade, wrought-iron columns, and plantation shutters are some of the architectural elements that will be featured.

The Fresh Market will introduce its newest format -- a 22,344 square-foot store offering perishables and everyday grocery items in an old-world European market atmosphere.

The gourmet food retailer is relocating its current store on E. North Street to the new neighborhood center to provide customers with an updated, more spacious location that will offer a larger variety of specialty items, Edens & Avant said. New features will include more parking spaces, bigger grocery aisles, European fixtures, enhanced lighting, a deli island, an improved selection of organic items, and larger floral, gift, and bakery departments.

Edens & Avant develops, owns, and operates neighborhood shopping places in markets along the East Coast.
