FreshDirect Rolls Out 4-Minute Italian Meals

LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. -- Online grocer FreshDirect yesterday said it launched "Presto Italiano," the latest addition to its well-received Fresh Dining four-minute meals.

Inspired by various regional cuisines of Italy, "Presto Italiano" offers a line of authentic entrees created under the guidance of Chef Tina Bourbeau, FreshDirect's director of research and development.

"Our team spent months in the kitchen testing various flavors and ingredients to bring New Yorkers a new way to enjoy Italian cuisine without all the prep work," said Bourbeau in a statement. "By combining innovative ingredients and age-old preparation methods, in less than four minutes our customers can enjoy a classic Italian meal that would normally take hours to prepare."

The line's meals include Four-Cheese Ravioli in Slow-Cooked Tomato Sauce for $5.99, Marinated Portobellos with Garganelli Pasta & Salsa Rosso for $7.99, Sweet Sausage, Goat Cheese & Persian Fig Risotto for $7.99, Parmesan Meatballs with Mezzi Rigatoni & Basil for $8.99, Shrimp Fettuccine with Roasted Peas & Bacon for $8.99, Roasted Red Snapper Minestrone with Pesto & Taggiasca Olives for $12.99, Balsamic-Roasted Chicken Thighs with Chili-Spiced Acorn Squash for $8.99, and Classic Chicken Parmesan with Spaghetti for $7.99.

All "Presto Italiano" meals come in microwavable containers with a valve designed to steam the meal, allowing a variety of raw ingredients to be cooked together.

FreshDirect serves most of Manhattan and locations in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, as well as parts of New Jersey, Westchester, and Nassau County. The company has over 250,000 customers and has fulfilled over 6 million orders since opening for business in September 2002.
