FreshDirect, Union Square Wines & Spirits Join Forces for Online Wine Store

The available selection will go up to 300 bottles by September 2008.

To mark its sixth anniversary of service, online grocer FreshDirect has formed a partnership with Union Square Wines & Spirits to launch the USQ Wine Store. The new online venture offers a selection of over 200 fine wines and specialty liquors easily browsed with innovative web features.

USQ Wine Store also provides detailed wine listings, a Food & Wine guide, and a "Perfect Pairings" feature offering exact food and wine pairs tested and approved by such well-known New York chefs as Artisanal's Chef Terence Brennan and Tabla's Chef Floyd Cardoz.

The site additionally offers seasonal content, allowing would-be grillers, for instance, to access the Top Ten Summer Picks listing to locate the vintages that best complements grilled fare.

"[T]he launch of the USQ Wine Store brings a new and exceptional selection of premium wines right to our customers' doorsteps in time to celebrate our sixth year of operation," noted FreshDirect v.p. of purchasing Ken Blanchette. "The great variety of wines available on the site will make it even easier for New Yorkers to complement their meals and dine in style at home. The new collaboration is in keeping with the excellent quality that our customers have come to expect from FreshDirect, now pairing the best of fresh chef-prepared meals and fresh foods with the finest in wines and spirits."

By September 2008, the variety available at the USQ Wine Store will expand to 300 bottles, encompassing international wines, spirits, and sakes for home delivery to the New York Metro area.

Long Island City, N.Y.-based FreshDirect serves most of Manhattan and locations in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and the Bronx, as well as parts of New Jersey and Westchester and Nassau counties.

Featuring a selection of over 3,000 items, Union Square Wines & Spirits, which opened in 1995, was the first retailer in Manhattan to offer Eno-machines, automated wine dispensers that enable customers to sample as many as four dozen wines during store hours.
