Since college basketball’s March Madness games loom large during that month, specialty produce company Frieda’s Inc. has introduced a special promotion to capitalize on the occasion in produce departments. The campaign aims to boost retail sales by engaging consumers through social networks during the National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball championship games taking place throughout March.
Frieda’s customers that take part in the promotion will be entered in a drawing to win a Sony Playstation 3 and the NCAA Basketball 10 game. For shoppers, new and existing fans of the company’s Facebook page will be able to enter to win one of three Frieda’s Final Four Hoops & Scoops gift boxes, which include such goodies as party dips to indulge in while watching the games. As well as employing college basketball as a prime sales opportunity, the promotion is designed to build excitement in advance of Frieda’s 50th anniversary celebration, which kicks off on April 2.
“Using social networks like Facebook and Twitter is a great way to make contact with our consumers around the country and help drive traffic into our clients’ produce departments,” noted Terri Mouton, director of client consulting at Los Alamitos, Calif.-based Frieda’s, which is getting the word out about its March Madness consumer giveaway with a Facebook advertising campaign.
Frieda’s offers more than 600 specialty items to supermarkets and foodservice distributors throughout the United States and Canada.
