Giant-Carlisle Debuting Giant To Go C-Store Concept

Giant Food Stores, LLC said yesterday it would open its first convenience store, Giant To Go, on April 15. The 4,422-square-foot store, which is located at 601 Richmond Drive in Lancaster, Pa., will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and employ 12 people. Sean Michael has been named store manager.

“Giant To Go will be more than your typical convenience store, with everything customers would expect to find in a convenience store but with an emphasis on fresh, on-the-go products and savings for which Giant is well-known,” noted Sander van der Laan, Giant Food Stores president and CEO. “Lancaster customers now will be able to participate in our Gas Extra Rewards program as well as use their Giant BonusCard when purchasing products at the new store.”

The new concept will stock high-quality fresh produce, meat, deli and bakery. In addition there will be a strong assortment of fresh, better-for-you take-home breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

Further, the location will offer the second Giant fuel station in Lancaster County, consisting of eight pumps, each with a Pay-at-the-Pump feature. Under Giant’s Gas Extra Rewards program, for every $100 a customer spends at Giant To Go or any Giant supermarket location on qualifying in-store purchases, he or she is eligible to get 10 cents off per gallon of gas.

When asked about future Giant To Go sites, director of public and community relations Tracy Pawelski told Progressive Grocer: “We plan to open two Giant To Go stores in Lancaster County, Pa., this year. We will evaluate the success of these initial two locations and make a determination from there.”

As for future locations, Pawelski noted: We have been searching for the right sites to offer on-the-go locations that include gas and maximize Giant value. We are interested in developing new and innovative formats that provide our customers with the best combination of convenience and value.”

Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant, a division of Ahold USA, operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores, Martin's Food Markets and Giant To Go banners.
