    Giant-Carlisle Fills New Sr. Dir. Advertising Slot

    Appleby will police the retailer's brand through all consumer communications, including print, signage, Internet, radio, and TV.

    Giant Food Stores, LLC said yesterday it had promoted Nancy Appleby to the newly created position of senior director of advertising and marketing. Reporting to Erik Keptner, s.v.p. of advertising and marketing, Appleby will lead the advertising, sales, and marketing teams at Giant in the development of strategic marketing, promotional planning, and advertising, the chain said.

    Appleby will also police the retailer's brand through all consumer communications, including print, signage, Internet, radio, and TV.

    A 30-year Ahold USA veteran, whose last position at the chain was director of advertising, Appleby joined Giant's advertising department in 1996; and before that worked for the former Edwards division.

    She volunteers for the Children's Miracle Network, a key charity supported by Giant, the chain added.

    Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores, Martin's Food Markets, and FoodSource banners.
