Giant Eagle Closes on LeNature's Acquisition

PITTSBURGH -- Giant Eagle Inc. has finally closed on the purchase of the now defunct LeNature's Inc. bottling plant in Latrobe, Pa.

The supermarket chain paid $23.25 million for the plant, including $19 million to buy it from Cadbury Schweppes Bottling Group of Plano, Texas.

Giant Eagle said it hopes to resume production at the plant in about two months, to bottle its signature brand teas, juices, mineral waters, and carbonated beverages.

"Under the new banner of Chestnut Ridge Beverage Company, we are eager to invest in the site, hire dedicated and skilled employees and begin manufacturing product by the end of the year," said chain spokesman Daniel Donovan.

The idled LeNature's plant closed last November after its original owners were forced into bankruptcy.
