Giant Eagle Debuts Online Special Orders

PITTSBURGH - Giant Eagle here launched a new Web-based service that enables its shoppers to buy hard-to-find specialty items online. The service, available at GiantEagle.com/specialorder, is owned and operated by Romeoville, Ill.-base Kehe Food Distributors, Inc.

The categories covered in the Giant Eagle program include Health & Wellness such as glute-free and other products meeting special dietary needs, Kosher-certifed foods; an assortment of international foods; certified organic items; celebrity chef specials; and gift ideas such as food baskets.

Customers are charged a flat $2.50 handling fee on orders under $25. There is no fee charged for purchases $25 and above. Orders are delivered right to customers' homes.

Giant Eagle operates 155 corporate and 71 independently owned and operated supermarkets, in addition to more than 120 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland.

The new program currently offers items such as ethnic, gourmet, and organic and natural foods, to more than 9,000 grocery stores in 35 states, including Albertson's, Kroger and HEB. Purchases made at the external site are not eligible for Giant Eagle's fuelperks gasoline discounts.
