PITTSBURGH -- In response to evolving consumer trends and an ongoing to effort to adjust the promotional mix in its retail locations, Giant Eagle, Inc., based here, yesterday discontinued the redemption of manufacturer double coupons in the Cleveland and Akron, Ohio markets.
"Consumers and manufacturers alike are moving toward the trend of lower coupon usage overall, opting for more specialized loyalty programs and everyday savings," said Giant Eagle spokesman Rob Borella. "In addition to our ongoing everyday price reductions across the store, we continue to offer unique savings opportunities, including our popular fuelperks! customer loyalty program. These savings are in addition to our ongoing weekly specials."
Borella said Giant Eagle price reduction efforts have resulted in more than $120 million in annualized customer savings since November 2004.
