Regional independent Giant Eagle, Inc. has become a certified partner to FoodLink, an online network for fresh food retailers, wholesalers and suppliers.
With 228 supermarket locations, Giant Eagle is one of the largest produce buyers in the country, offering selections from regional growers to global suppliers with a focus on quality and freshness. “We strive to offer our customers a wide selection of fresh, high quality products at low everyday prices,” said Craig Ignatz, VP of produce, Giant Eagle, Inc. “FoodLink will be an important part of helping improve our operations to better serve these customers through more effective sourcing and partnering with a wide network of perishable goods suppliers.”
FoodLink is an online network developed to connect all of the participants in the fragmented perishable goods supply chain. The network consists of more than 2,000 retail grocers and their fresh food suppliers, including carriers and third-party brokers and wholesalers. The network helps retailers manage the fresh food category to source the highest quality products at competitive prices while reducing waste and inefficiencies across the supply chain. For suppliers, FoodLink is a sales platform that simplifies the process of managing orders, tracking shipments, responding to change requests, and receiving payment.
“Giant Eagle is well known as an innovative multi format food and fuel retailer that makes smart use of their technology platforms,” said Eric Peters, CEO, Los Gatos, Calif.-based FoodLink Online. “We help all our retail and wholesale customers leverage the efficiency of the FoodLink network to better manage perishables ordering and to stay connected with their key fresh category suppliers.”
