    Giant Eagle Uses Tech to Boost Relevance

    New system builds local product assortments.

    Regional independent Giant Eagle plans to deploy a behavioral cluster planning system to enhance the relevance of its offerings to shoppers.

    According to published reports, the system analyzes local demographics, customer data, sales patterns and store sizes to determine which products to stock, how much to keep on hand, how to price them and how they should be merchandised in the store.

    The grocer expects the system to be particularly helpful it matching local products to niche markets, as some specialty items may have a local following that doesn’t extend to the chain’s other stores.
