Giant Eagle's Plan to Buy Le-Nature Plant Finally Goes Through

PITTBURGH -- Giant Eagle here has received final approval to buy the closed Le-Nature's plant in Latrobe after a series of legal barriers holding up the deal.

The deal greenlighted yesterday would allow Cadbury Schweppes Beverage Group to buy the plant for 19 million dollars, and then immediately sell it to Giant Eagle, according to a report by the Associated Press.

The bankruptcy judge ruled last month Giant Eagle had intimidated Cadbury Schweppes into dropping out of the sale. Under a subsequent n agreement, Giant Eagle denied wrongdoing, but said it will forfeit its $2 million deposit. It said it would also pay more than $2 million to a bankruptcy trustee to repay Le-Nature's creditors.

Giant Eagle said it anticipates reopening the plant in about two months.
