Giant-Landover Named Employer of the Year
Giant Food, LLC was honored as Employer of the Year by the not-for-profit Marriott Foundation, for hiring of young adults with disabilities. Specifically, the distinction was for Giant’s participation in the Marriott Foundation’s “Bridges…from school to work” program, which aims to enhance employment opportunities for youth with disabilities.
Over the years, Giant has worked closely with the Bridges staff to place several young adults from the program in entry-level positions at stores. In just the past 18 months, the chain has hired 21 Bridges program members at seven stores.
Managers team up with Bridges employee representatives to provide program the workers with continuing training and support, and help create job advancement opportunities.
Giant, based in Landover, Md., operates 184 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, and employs approximately 21,000 associates. Included within the 184 stores are 165 full-service pharmacies.
