Purchases of specially marked items at six Chicago area grocery retailers will benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository between now and the end of May. The "Hunger Knows No Season" promotion brings together retailers and manufacturers to support hunger-relief programs while encouraging customers to get involved in the year-round fight against hunger in Cook County.
Participating retailers -- including Centrella, Food 4 Less, Jewel-Osco, Meijer, Strack & Van Til and Ultra Foods will feature products marked with the promotionís distinctive yellow and green signs during the promotion aims to raise more than $350,000 for the Food Depository's hunger-relief programs that serve nearly 500,000 hungry men, women and children every year.
Participating brands include: Azteca, Barilla, Breyers, Brownberry Bread, Bumble Bee Foods, Creamette, Daisy, Eight OíClock Coffee, Frigo, Gerber, Gortonís Frozen Fish, Hidden Valley, Hills Brothers Coffee, Hinckley Springs, Ice Mountain, KC Masterpiece, Kozy Shack, Lipton, Mars Ice Cream, Maruchan, McCormick Grinders, Mission Foods, Mottís, Pillsbury, Prince, Ragu, Smuckers and Starkist.
Through the years, Hunger Knows No Season has raised more than $2.81 million to support the Greater Chicago Food Depository and its 600 member pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in the Chicago area.
