Grocery Vet Yakovsky Joins B&R Stores as Meat Director

Veteran retail meat executive Michael Yakovsky has joined Lincoln, Neb.-based B&R Stores, Inc. as its new meat director. In his new post, Yakovsky will oversee the meat and seafood programs for the company’s Russ’s Market and Super Saver stores in seven cities across Nebraska and western Iowa.

Yakovsky’s experience in store management and supervisory roles, combined with his extensive knowledge of the meat business, made him the ideal candidate for the meat director position, said B&R Stores president Pat Raybould. “We take pride in the quality of meat we offer in our stores,” explained Raybould. “It’s one of the differences our customers have come to expect, so having a meat director that understands our needs is absolutely critical. We believe we’ve found in Michael Yakovsky a meat director that has the skills, knowledge and experience to take our meat program to the next level.”

A graduate of West Virginia University, Yakovsky has held a variety of retail management positions, in addition to key marketing, merchandising and distribution positions at the corporate level. He began his industry career with Cincinnati-based Kroger, where he gained extensive meat experience. Yakovsky has also worked for Brookshire Brothers, Bi-Lo and, most recently, Bruno’s in Birmingham, Ala.
