H-E-B, Austin to Launch Pilot Recycling Program

H-E-B and the City of Austin, Texas have agreed to launch a pilot recycling collection program for paper and cardboard at four Austin H-E-B stores. The program targets people who may not currently have easy access to recycling services. The city will provide a recycling container for the parking lot of each location. Initial collection will be twice a week.

The city and the San Antonio-based grocer will share the net revenue from the sale of the collected materials evenly. The city expects the program to generate about $3,500.

The pilot program will undergo analysis every three months to determine effectiveness. A decision on whether to expand the program to other locations will depend upon results of the four-location test. Other materials than paper and cardboard may be collected in the future.
