Harris Teeter Ups Rewards to Catch Robbers

Harris Teeter has increased Crime Stoppers rewards to $75,000 apiece for information leading to the arrests of suspects responsible for robberies at the chain’s stores in the Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C., areas.

The Matthews, N.C.-based grocer first offered the original $50,000 rewards in May, hoping to spur those with information about the crimes to come forward. By increasing the rewards now, Harris Teeter said its intention was “to bring new attention to the cases and bring in new leads for law enforcement to pursue.”

Although no further incidents have been reported in either area since May, Harris Teeter is continuing to assist local law enforcement to track down the culprits. The chain has also beefed up security at its Charlotte- and Greensboro-area stores, and gone over its robbery procedures with associates.

Directly after the robberies, Harris Teeter met with associates on duty at the time, as well as other employees who felt traumatized by the events. The company attributed the fact that new serious injuries occurred during the robberies to “our associates following company procedures for handling instances such as these.”
