    HEB to Test Wind Energy to Power Facilities

    SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- H.E. Butt Grocery Co. has joined forces with Wind Energy Corp. in a new research and development project to study the commercial application of Wind Energy's vertical axis wind turbine. The study will take place at HEB's Weslaco Retail Support Center, in Weslaco, Texas.

    SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- H.E. Butt Grocery Co. has joined forces with Wind Energy Corp. in a new research and development project to study the commercial application of Wind Energy's vertical axis wind turbine. The study will take place at HEB's Weslaco Retail Support Center, in Weslaco, Texas.

    This is the latest in a number of environmental initiatives for HEB, which operates stores throughout Texas and Mexico.

    Beginning in March, the partnership will consist of an 18- to 24-month observation and analysis of wind power opportunities in south Texas. Wind Energy of Elizabethtown, Ky. will manage the installation, data collection, and research associated with the project.

    "This is an exciting opportunity for HEB," said HEB spokeswoman Shelley Parks in a statement. "The formation of this partnership and the launch of this project is a unique opportunity for us to conduct our business in a responsible and sustainable way, while contributing to the development of revolutionary energy solutions."

    HEB said its Weslaco site was chosen over 18 other potential HEB pilot sites in Texas because of its wind conditions and opportunity for a secure location in which to conduct the necessary research. This research and development project will allow Wind Energy to ascertain how much electricity the system will provide to the facility and opportunities for future power distribution.

    Wind Energy's wind turbine is an advanced composite, vertical axis design that has a solid "sail" design. The turbine will perform over a wide range of wind speeds and will have a peak capacity of 25kW to 50kW.
