In an effort to promote environmental responsibility, Heinz Ketchup recently launched its “Join the Growing Movement” campaign, an invitation for consumers to pledge a more eco-friendly lifestyle. For each pledge made, Heinz will help plant a tree – up to 57,000 – through The Nature Conservancy.
This summer, the front label of Heinz Ketchup bottles in restaurants will feature the campaign’s slogan, “Join the Growing Movement,” and the back label will feature a QR code that consumers can enter through a mobile application to make their eco-friendly promise – whether that’s through recycling, using reusable grocery bags, or turning off appliances when they’re not in use. Heinz will match every pledge taken and shared by planting a tree with The Nature Conservancy, an Arlington, Va.-based global conservation organization dedicated to protecting ecologically important lands and waters.
All of Pittsburgh-based Heinz’ 20-ounce bottles are made from new PlantBottle packaging. The packaging – part of a strategic partnership with The Coca-Cola Co., based in Atlanta -- looks, feels and functions like traditional PET plastic, but it’s made from up to 30 percent renewable material derived from sugar cane, and it’s 100 percent recyclable.
“Heinz is committed to utilizing the best technology and innovations available to be as environmentally responsible as possible,” said John Bennett, the company’s VP – foodservice ketchup, condiments and sauces. “This program celebrates not only what Heinz is doing to be more sustainable, but also how everyone can do their part to live a more eco-conscious lifestyle.”
To participate in Heinz’ Join the Growing Movement campaign:
• Scan – Look for the Join the Growing Movement Heinz ketchup bottle at your local restaurant and use a smart phone to scan the QR code on the back of the bottle, which will direct you to a mobile application.
• Pledge – Promise to be greener by choosing an environmentally responsible activity from the drop-down list, or create your own.
• Share – Tell your friends on Facebook or Twitter how you're going green to complete your pledge, and Heinz will help plant a tree.
“We’re proud to partner with Heinz for this program to plant 57,000 trees,” said Geof Rochester, CMO for The Nature Conservancy. “We work throughout the world to address the most pressing conservation threats at the largest scale, but being more environmentally responsible can be easy by making small changes in your everyday routines like carpooling or switching to energy-efficient light bulbs.”
