Harris Teeter Collects $594K-plus to Fight Hunger

Shoppers and associates of Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter Supermarkets Inc. donated more than $594,000 to local food banks during the grocery chain's Harvest Feast Food Drive and Donation Card campaign, which ran during the month of November in all store locations.

During the campaign, shoppers could purchase $1, $5 or $20 donation cards at checkout, in addition to donating food to the companywide food drive.

According to Harris Teeter, the money raised in the campaign equates to 5.9 million meals, which food banks and food pantries in the grocer's Southeast marketing areas can supply to the communities they serve.

The company's media partners in the effort were Comcast, Cox Cable, WCSC, WGHP, WILM, WRAL and WBTV, all of which assisted in the promotion of the food drive and donation card campaign.

Harris Teeter, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co., in Cincinnati, employs about 26,000 associates at stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and the District of Columbia.
