Mi Pueblo Brings Back Scholarship Program

Mi Pueblo Food Center, the San Jose, Calif.-based Hispanic grocery chain, is bringing back its scholarship program, which provides financial aid to college-bound students and Mi Pueblo employees seeking higher education.

The application period will run from Feb. 2 – April 30, 2015, and the list will of recipients will be unveiled on May 30.  

To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must be graduating high school seniors with a minimum 2.7 GPA, residents of a Mi Pueblo county, and demonstrate community involvement as well as financial need.  Current full- and part-time Mi Pueblo employees will also be eligible.

“Mi Pueblo has been a part of the community since 1991, and throughout the years we have seen that there is a great need to support our youth as they seek a higher education to improve their lives and the well-being of their families," said Juvenal Chavez, Mi Pueblo founder and board chairman.

Since 2011, Mi Pueblo has helped award more than $550,000 in scholarships to more than 350 individuals in the Bay Area, Central Coast and Central Valley regions.

The company will also support the efforts of local school districts by providing in-kind donations for select upcoming events, and will open up its locations across Northern California for field trips and career fairs.

Mi Pueblo Food Center operates stores in the Bay Area, Monterey Peninsula and Central Valley.
