Albertsons Tackles Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

BOISE, Idaho - Albertsons has teamed with First Candle/Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Alliance in an effort to save the lives of infants.

In the first national promotion of its kind, Albertsons will be joined by four major vendors -- Gerber, Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, and Ross Products -- to promote infant health and survival at Albertsons stores across America. The promotion, Keeping Families Healthy and Safe, One Baby at a Time, was launched on Wednesday and will run for two weeks in more than 2,300 of the company's supermarkets and drug stores in 31 states.

During the promotion more than 250,000 bilingual nursery door hangers displaying simple steps parents and caregivers can take to reduce the risk of SIDS will be available in Albertsons baby aisles. A portion of the campaign partners' featured products will be donated to First Candle/SIDS Alliance. In addition to the in-store promotions, special events coordinated by Albertsons and First Candle/SIDS Alliance will take place throughout October in recognition of SIDS Awareness Month.

"We are proud to become the first national retailer to partner with our vendors to support the First Candle/SIDS Alliance," said Larry Johnston, chairman and CEO of Albertsons.
