SAN DIEGO - Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. announced today that The Great Atlantic and Pacific Company of Canada Ltd. (A&P Canada), which operates 240 supermarkets throughout Ontario, has signed a three-and-one-half year agreement with Fujitsu for infrastructure management services of in-store, multi-vendor servers, point-of-sale systems and peripherals.

The agreement, effective Feb. 18, gives A&P Canada complete 24-by-7 technical, on-site support of its store-level hardware, including IBM RS/6000 servers, 4694 and 4683 POS terminals. An assortment of multi-vendor printers, scanners, scales and handheld devices will also be supported.

"We chose Fujitsu because of its long-standing track record as one of our key technology and service providers," said John Paton, A&P Canada's director of store automation. "Fujitsu, time and time again, has proven to be available, responsive and flexible, while also demonstrating real value during the competitive review process."

The services agreement covers all 240 A&P Canada supermarkets within Ontario. The stores operate as A&P, Ultra Food and Drug, Dominion, Food Basics and The Barn Markets.
