California Grocers Association Elects New Chairman

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Andy Small, senior vice president, Northern California Supermarkets for Ralphs Grocery Company, was recently elected California Grocers Association Chairman of the Board.

Others officers elected include: Larry Nurse, Raleyis Supermarkets, Sacramento, First Vice Chair; Mark Kidd, Mar-Val Food Stores, Lodi, Second Vice Chair; John Eagan, Costco Wholesale, Garden Grove, Treasurer; Robert Stiles, Gelsonis Markets, Encino, Secretary; and Sally Sanborn, Save Mart Supermarkets, Modesto, Immediate Past Chair.

"We look forward to working closely with Andy in the coming year," said CGA President Peter Larkin. "He is a real asset to the association and the grocery industry."

As senior vice president for Ralphs Grocery Co., Small has overall responsibility for all store operations, marketing and administrative functions.

Small began his career at Ralphs in 1968 as a boxboy in Granada Hills. From there he worked at all store levels, reaching store manager in 1978. He has served at numerous administrative levels and has been a vice president since 1994.

As Chairman of the Board, Small will also oversee the operation of the California Grocers Association, a non-profit, statewide trade association representing the food industry since 1898. CGA represents approximately 500 retail members operating over 6,000 food stores in California and Nevada, and approximately 300 grocery supplier companies. He will serve as Association chair for one year.

Retail membership includes chain and independent supermarkets, convenience stores and mass merchandisers. CGA maintains its headquarters in Sacramento with a satellite office in Long Beach.
