The Co-operative Group Taps Manhattan Associates for Supply Chain Re-engineering

LONDON - The Co-operative Group (CWS) Ltd, the retail-focused co-operative that includes more than 1,600 food retailing stores, has selected Manhattan Associates' Integrated Logistics Solution for Retail to help automate and improve its supply chain.

CWS' will be implementing Manhattan Associates' trading partner management, warehouse management, slotting optimization, labor management, billing management, transportation planning and execution, and performance management solutions.

The principal drivers in the CWS' decision to re-engineer its supply chain include a need to improve on-shelf availability and enhance operational effectiveness throughout its source-to-store supply chain network.

"We needed an infrastructure that would create a much more efficient inbound, as well as more flexible and store-friendly outbound supply chain operation," said Trevor Ashworth, g.m. of retail logistics at the Co-operative Group. "The advanced functionality of Manhattan Associates' distribution and transportation solutions, and their ability to help us exploit real-time information on a whole variety of logistics activities within our own organization, as well as exchange this kind of data with our suppliers, will give us more control over just about everything we do."

The Co-operative Group employs more than 70,000 people, operates more than 3,000 retail outlets, with branches focusing on food, travel, and funeral services, and had 2003 sales of more than euro 8 billion.
