Colin Powell to Speak at NGA Show

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Gen. Colin L. Powell, U.S.A. (Ret.), the former U.S. Secretary of State and a luminary on the global and national security challenges of the 21st century, will be the opening keynote speaker at the 2007 NGA Annual Convention and Supermarket Synergy Showcase, the trade group here said yesterday.

The NGA show will be held Jan. 29 to Feb. 1, 2007 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Powell will keynote the NGA opening session Jan. 29.

Powell served as U.S. Secretary of State from 2001 to 2005. Previously he served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and led the United States’ successful military efforts during Operation Desert Storm. Upon his retirement from the Army, General Powell addressed the NGA Convention in 1998 in Houston.

"General Colin Powell continues our tradition of presenting the highest level of renowned business and world leaders to be part of the NGA Convention -- leaders who can both inspire and educate attendees,” said NGA president and c.e.o. Tom Zaucha in a statement. “We are delighted that he will be sharing his insights into some of the most significant world events and the challenges facing the United States in decades."

Other features planned for the conference include two half-day pre-convention symposiums; four keynote sessions, over 30 workshops, and four Super Breakfast sessions. In addition, the Supermarket Synergy Showcase (S3) Show floor will be filled with vendors displaying their newest products, technologies, and services.
