College Savings Service Gains Ground in Supermarkets

BROOKLINE, Mass. - Upromise Inc., a company that helps families save for college, on Tuesday announced that several new brands have signed on to participate in its grocery service. The company said that within one month of the May 1 Upromise Grocery launch, Upromise members registered more than one million grocery and drug store loyalty cards.

The latest participants in the Upromise Grocery service are Skippy Peanut Butter, Centrum multivitamins, Lehigh Valley Dairies milk products, Fisher nuts, and pasta from brands like Muellers, R&F, Pennsylvania Dutch and Anthony's. These brands will contribute 3 percent to 5 percent of each participating product's purchase price into a member's Upromise account. The companies join 13 other leading CPG manufacturers already participating in the program, among them Coca-Cola, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, Keebler, Kellogg, Kimberly-Clark, and Procter & Gamble.

The program now includes more than 2,700 items at over 15,000 grocery and drug stores, including America's four largest grocery chains and all CVS/pharmacy locations. More than two million families nationwide have registered for the Upromise service since its launch.

To participate in Upromise Grocery, members simply register their grocery loyalty card, or credit/debit cards at www.upromise.com. Enrolling is free, and there are no coupons to collect or receipts to keep. When families use their registered card as they normally do, manufacturers automatically contribute 3 percent to 5 percent of the purchase price of participating products into the family's Upromise account. All grocery contributions are in addition to other store specials and manufacturers' coupons. Members can track their contributions through purchase summaries posted online in their Upromise account.

Upromise Grocery complements a service that already allows families to save when they buy gas at ExxonMobil, shop at Toys"R"Us, join America Online, use AT&T long distance, eat at McDonald's or 7,000 other restaurants, use a Citi Upromise Card, purchase or lease a GM car or truck, even buy or sell a home with Century 21.
