C&S Starts Rollout of Fresh E-Procurement System

KEENE, N.H. -- Food wholesaler and distributor C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc., has begun the rollout of a perishable products e-procurement system that, once fully installed, will extend collaborative supply chain management software and marketplace services throughout all C&S perishables procurement operations.

Torrence, Calif.-based Agribuys is the technology vendor working with C&S to make this happen. "C&S is committed to providing services that add value, create efficiencies, and reduce costs for our customers," said George Semanie, s.v.p. of merchandising and logistics for C&S. "Agribuys has demonstrated clearly that they have proven technology and services to help us be a more effective procurement organization for our existing and new customers."

Albert Grimaldi, v.p. of produce, added, "To manage the growth and diversity of our Produce business, we needed a very specific set of technology capabilities. Agribuys provided that and more for us. Their collaborative technology platform will help us work more closely with our supply chain partners to create efficiencies for us and our customers."

Agribuys' technology is a hosted, collaborative commerce solution, designed to meet the unique challenges of the perishable or fresh food supply chain. It enables end-to-end transactions between a grocer's procurement and back-end accounting and warehousing systems, and the corresponding systems at its suppliers and transportation carriers.

The system, which is hosted by IBM, is designed to be highly secure, with multiple redundancies for disaster recovery. It is currently in use by Ahold USA, US Food Service, and Pathmark Stores.
